Anyone who has ever bought a property here will know only too well that the real work begins once you have the keys. You are normally just getting over the whole process of going to the Notary when you are suddenly landed with a whole new to do list.
As Diane and Paul Gregg from Halifax found, this can sometimes be a fairly substantial list. The couple who had been coming to the island for eleven years decided after their numerous visits that they would like to buy a property. They finally fell in love with the stunning views of Miradores Del Este on the mountain in Caleta and bought a house off plan.
The house was built and signed for and as proud new owners they started to discuss their plans and ideas for the house and garden area, Diane is a very keen gardener so it was important to also bear this in mind.
The couple will be moving to the island permanently in the New Year as Paul is due to retire in February 2007, with this in mind they where keen to get the work started on the house, so then came the process of trying to find the right company to undertake the work.
Here is their story...
"We were aware that one or two things needed developing and improving with the house when we came across a two page article on Fuerte Trade Kitchens in the Fuerteventura News. The article stated the company had diversified from solely fitting kitchens into other areas such as wardrobes, terraces etc. pretty much every type of work really.
We made contact to discuss a fitted wardrobe and the rest is history. We met Paul who measured and quoted for two fitted wardrobes, a concreted and tiled terrace with retaining wall, a pan tiled pergola and front porch, a raised garden wall and security gate, a roof and aluminium door for the utility area, etc.
We accepted the quote and asked for everything to be completed within a two week period.
During that period the house resembled a bomb site with numerous people coming and going, six days a week. We met so many people who were happy and professional and a pleasure to have around. Nothing was too much trouble. They did the work, we provided the refreshments, tea, coffee, iced water etc.
Initially there were nerves as we couldn't see how it was going to happen, these were replaced by excitement as we saw things start to take shape and finally absolute delight with the finished works.
We will definitely be using Fuerte Kitchens again for a few other things and would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone else. You would think that two solid weeks of building and improvement would fray the nerves but to be honest it was an adventure which we thoroughly enjoyed.
